Terry Ward – CEO, Publisher, and Media Visionary
Terry Ward’s journey into the media industry is deeply rooted in resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to the power of storytelling. His life was profoundly shaped before he was even born. On November 8, 1971, six months before Terry’s birth, his father was tragically killed in a car accident in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The accident left his mother devastated and struggling to provide for her four children. The years that followed were marked by frequent relocations, financial instability, and periods of homelessness. Terry and his siblings often had to fend for themselves while their mother sought work. Their survival depended on hard labor—migrant farm work, picking fruits and vegetables under grueling conditions, and living in state parks when shelter was unattainable.
Growing up in an unstable environment, Terry attended dozens of schools across multiple states, constantly adapting to new surroundings. Yet, despite these hardships, he developed a strong sense of perseverance and an appreciation for the transformative power of communication. His difficult upbringing instilled in him a deep empathy for others, a relentless work ethic, and a passion for creating opportunities where none previously existed.
A Career Rooted in Journalism and Leadership
Terry’s career in the media industry spans decades, during which he has held leadership roles in some of the most influential media organizations in the country. His experience includes positions as a reporter, editor, advertising director, director of sales & digital advertising, newspaper publisher, regional publisher, vice president of sales, digital & marketing, chief operating officer, and chief executive officer. His tenure at large statewide and national media companies sharpened his expertise in business development, digital transformation, and audience engagement, laying the groundwork for his next venture.
The Power of Mentorship: Paying It Forward
Terry’s path to success would not have been possible without the mentorship he received early in life. As a high school junior, his life took a pivotal turn when the publisher of his local newspaper called him and offered him a job as a reporter. That publisher took him under his wing, moving him through various departments and teaching him the newspaper business from the ground up. It was a life-changing opportunity—one that shaped his career and ignited his passion for journalism.
Because of that experience, Terry believes mentorship is one of the most powerful forces for personal and professional growth. “Everyone should have a mentor, and everyone should be a mentor,” he says. This philosophy has guided him throughout his career. He actively mentors young journalists, particularly high school students, introducing them to the industry, offering hands-on experience, and preparing them for careers in media. His commitment to mentorship is not just about teaching skills—it’s about inspiring confidence, fostering resilience, and opening doors for the next generation.
