Olympic College launches new computer science associate degree

Olympic College will launch a new associate degree in computer science this fall, expanding its technology programs and creating another pathway for Kitsap County students to pursue careers in the field without leaving the region.

The Computer Science Associate Degree will begin in fall 2026 and provide instruction in programming, software development, computer systems and problem-solving through classroom and hands-on learning.

College officials said the program is designed both for students preparing to enter the workforce and those planning to continue their education.

“With this addition, Olympic College is creating a seamless pathway for students to begin their computer science education, earn an associate degree, and continue on to our Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program,” said Staci Snyder, dean of Business & Information Technology. “Students can achieve their academic and career goals while staying right here in Kitsap County.”

The associate degree complements Olympic College’s existing Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, allowing students to potentially complete both degrees at the college. Students may also use the associate degree as a foundation for transferring to another four-year institution.

Olympic College also offers computer science and computer information systems programs that include associate degrees and certificates in areas such as cybersecurity, technical support and web design.

The college said the expanded offerings are intended to provide students with flexible ways to earn credentials while helping develop a pipeline of technology workers for Kitsap County employers.

“This new program reflects Olympic College’s commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers while strengthening our local workforce,” Olympic College President Chantae Recasner said. “It creates more opportunities for students to achieve their goals while supporting the continued growth and success of our community.”

The addition comes as employers across industries increasingly rely on workers with skills in software, computer systems, cybersecurity and other technology-related fields. College officials said keeping more students in Kitsap County for their education could also help local employers recruit workers for higher-wage technology positions.
