Small businesses gain North Kitsap option for hazardous waste disposal

Small businesses in North Kitsap will have a closer place to get rid of hazardous waste when Kitsap County’s North Kitsap Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility opens Nov. 4 at 23300 Arness Creek Road NE near Poulsbo.

Businesses and organizations that qualify as small quantity generators can use the facility by appointment through a county disposal program the county describes as affordable. Requirements and how to qualify are posted at kitsap.gov/pw/Pages/SmallQuantityGenerator.aspx.

Until now, the closest full-service option was the South Kitsap Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, more than 40 minutes away for many north-end customers, according to Kevin Bevelhimer, the county’s solid waste program manager.

The $13 million facility, under construction since September 2025, shares a property with the county’s new North Kitsap roads operations facility. It includes a loading dock for unloading larger loads from residents and small quantity generator customers, and a reuse shop that gives away leftover paint and automotive products during operating hours.

Residents can drop off household hazardous waste free on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Questions go to the Kitsap County Public Works Solid Waste Division at 360-337-5777 or SolidWaste@kitsap.gov.
